Long live the Queen...

Today is Koninginnedag, or to say in perfect Dutch: Queen's Day. We celebrate the birthday of our former queen Juliana. She reigned from 1948 until 1980. Her daughter Beatrix decided to maintain the 30th of April as a holiday, when she succeeded her mother as Queen of the Netherlands. Not only as a tribute to her mother, but also because of a practical matter: Beatrix' birthday is January 31st, too cold to continue the outside activities as we're accustomed to.

Even the South Bank in London is infected by the Dutch Queen's Day virus. We saw this poster when we were heading to the bike rental on Gabriel's Wharf (London Bicycle Tour Company).
