Golf for dummies
Golfing sometimes seems like a kids game to me. Whacking a ball with a stick and trying to get it into a hole in the ground. Yup... sounds like a kids game.
But in most countries golf courses are serious business these days. Here in the US one might (mistakenly) get the impression that golf courses are the only type of nature that exists around here.
One of my favorite sights of a golf course is the driving range, where everyone can practice whacking the ball as far away as possible. You "buy" a bucket of balls for a few dollars and start whacking.
You're not supposed to pick up your balls, since that would be dangerous with 20 more people whacking at the same time. That's why I put the "buy" in quotes above, after an hour or so of whacking the balls are gone and you'll have to buy new ones.
Now don't feel sorry for the guy picking up the balls. He drives around in a huge lawnmower. But instead of mowing the grass, this machine picks up the golf balls. They return them to the club house, where they fill up the buckets for the next day.
